Manducatis (Long Island City, Queens)

Italian. Good Prices. Tasty Food. Odd Service. Unimaginative Decor. 1 Block from the 7 Train Location. Like many fine Italian establishments Manducatis makes there own pasta. I chose the Gnocchi and was very satisfied with my selection. It was light and flavorful. The sauce was not overbearing but still bursting with flavor. The waiter seemed a bit unhappy that we were there 9:45pm.

13-27 Jackson Avenue (at 47th Road)

Knickerbocker Bar and Grill

Steakhouse. Great Food. Marginally higher Cost than the average Steakhouse. Happy Service. Great Location. Cheers-like Decor. I ordered the D-licious T-bone with Mmm-good Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Perfectly cooked and served with tasty onion rings. Food that weighs down the stomach and lightens the wallet.

33 University Place (at 9th Street)

Cardamomm (CLOSED)

Indian. Wanna-be Indo-Chinese. Decent Food. Way Above average Prices. Good Service. Refreshing Decor. To be fair we tried the Indo-Chinese fare during the visit. However, this was a mistake. It was nothing like what we expected. The Chicken Manchurian was watery and flavorless. The rice and noodles were the saving grace but not up to par. The desserts by far was the best part of the meal and those were uniquely Indian. So that may mean they are better on Indian dishes than the Indo-Chinese ones. I guess we will have to try that next time.

Sripraphai (Woodside, Queens)

UPDATED: Quailty has definitely fallen at this establishment. As they grew they seem to have paid less attention to their food. Maybe they should down size and remember what got them the reputation in the first place.

Thai. D-licious Food. Great Prices. Much Improved Decor. Good Service. Close to the 7 Location. The always popular Pad Thai is excellent. The Curry Soup pack a spicy punch but is well prepared. The Papaya Salad is amazing and spicy hot. And they have sweets galore that you can buy on your way out the door.

Minado

Japanese. Good Food. Great Prices. Its Buffet style so one price fits all. Minimalist Decor. Good Service. Convenient Midtown Location. Its an all you can stomach buffet of Sushi, Tempura, and Crab Legs. Its all included in the price of the buffet. Crepes, Oysters on the half shell, and Green Tea Ice Cream. The factory line sushi is good for the price but I still prefer the make-it-as-you-order-it sushi.

Antica Venezia

Italian. Great Food. Decent Prices. Warm Decor with Great River Views. Entertaining Service. A little out of the way Location. They provided us with two on the house pre-appetizer appetizers, Bruschetta and Zucchini Fries. Both delicious. I order a special appetizer and entree. The appetizer was calamari and the entree was a giant scallops with risotto. Both excellent. During dessert (I ordered the creme brulee) they offer free house liquors of Limocello and others, as well as Grappa. The Grappa was powerful but tasty. Service was great, straight out of the fifties.

UPDATE: THANKFULLY AN AWFUL RESTAURANT SPARES ITS VICTIMS

Indian. Average Food. Decent Cost. Dilapitated Decor. Odd Service. Good Location. The food was not as good as it could have been. The Chicken Biriyani and the Tandoori Chicken need more seasoning. The only good thing was Vegetable Samosa though the shell is little thicker than usual. I would rather get the Samosa in Jackson Heights. 2 for $1.

Mombar (Astoria, Queens)

Egyptian. Excellent Decor. Great Food. A Bit Expensive. Friendly Service. Definitely Not as Convienent as You would Like. I have been here several times and each time I am amazed. The entire restaurant was created by the chef/artist. He cooks, makes (yes MAKES!) tables, paints. He even laid the tiles down and hung the chandelier himself. The food is classic with a modern twist. Don't forget to order the mint tea and the special desert of the night. You will not regret the trip.
